The John Frick Band: CONTEMPORARY BLUES MUSIC.

With us, it’s all about blues music, its origins and influences and the music it, in turn, has inspired. The focus is on performing and recording original music that is firmly rooted in the traditions of blues music. To date, we have recorded 3 albums, Boogie With The John Frick Blues Band (2011), Urban Crossroads (2014) and K.02 Sessions (2015). The two latest albums were released on Peter Struijk’s Blueshine Records.

The band members are John Frick (South Africa) on vocals, guitar, slide guitar; Leo Birza (Netherlands) on vocals and keyboards; Michel De Man (Netherlands) on drums and Nico Hart (Netherlands) on bass guitar and backing vocals.

Our music is heavily influenced by classic blues legends such as Elmore James, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Freddy King and many more. The modern American and British blues guitar masters, like Peter Green, Rory Gallagher, Jimmie Vaughan, Sean Costello, and many others, have also influenced our sound. Although comparisons can be made between The John Frick Band and bands such as these, we have very much our own sound and approach to presenting our brand of the blues. We strive to capture and invoke the energy and passion of those who inspire us.

Since its inception, the band has played a large number of venues in and around The Netherlands. One of the many highlights was our tour to South Africa in 2012, during which we performed at Africa’s most prestigious blues festival, The Table Mountain Blues Summit. We have continued along an exciting path of gigs, festivals and events, always seeking to expand our blues horizons and win over new supporters far and wide. In 2018, we completed a second tour of South Africa.

Other highlights include The Zoetermeer Blues Festival (2011, 2015 and 2016), The Delft Blues Festival (2017 and 2018), various performances at the Apeldoorn Bluescafe, Bluescafe Kerkzicht in Roosendaal and Bluessocieteit l’Esprit, amongst others. In 2018, the John Frick Band, together with Sjef van der Lans (lead vocal) and Ian Dole (blues harp), performed in the final of the Dutch Blues Challenge as Hollands Blauw.

NEWSFLASH! Our duo formation, Frick n Man, has made it through to this year's Dutch Blues Challenge Final on the 6th of October.

The John Frick Band is currently working on new material in The Sofa Lounge studio in The Hague. The result will be a long-awaited album to follow on our previous albums, which were all critically acclaimed. Watch this space and follow us on social media for more news and updates.

Our repertoire includes songs by legendary artists such as Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Bo Diddley, Freddy King, Sleepy John Estes, Little Walter, Willie Dixon, B.B. King and Muddy Waters, amongst others. The band is made up of the same band members as The John Frick Band.

Frick n Man: TWO-MAN BLUES AND BOOGIE.

NEWSFLASH! Our duo formation, Frick n Man, has made it through to this year's Dutch Blues Challenge Final on the 6th of October.

This duo is comprised of John Frick on vocals, guitar, slide guitar and Michel De Man on drums. We’re inspired by artists such as Hound Dog Taylor and Seasick Steve and our aim is to deliver raw blues and blues-inspired music in a guitar and drums combination. We believe that, although the bass is usually a key part of the musical soundscape in blues music, it is also refreshing to see and hear musicians playing without a bassist. Drum and guitar duos allow musicians to explore new possibilities through improvising and exposing the potential of songs in a live context. Because there are no other melodic instruments apart from the guitar, the musicians are not bound to song arrangements. Our videos on YouTube were recorded live in December 2018 at The Sofa Lounge in The Hague. We also have a Facebook page.

The Codray Brothers: ROCKABILLY AND OLD-STYLE ROCK & ROLL

The Codray Brothers (www.facebook.com/CodrayBrothers). This is our longest standing band and is made up of John Frick on vocals and guitar, Michel De Man on drums and Leo van der Helm on upright double bass. We also regularly perform with superb guest musicians such as the amazing Dutch guitarist and performing artist, Jan de Bruijn. The Codray Brothers released a couple of albums in the 1990s. The music remains fresh and exciting and the band is still booked a few times a year for special events. Highly recommended for the lovers of old-style music.

Hollands BlauwBLUES UIT DE HOLLANDSE DELTA.

Looking ahead, we will continue performing far and wide with The John Frick Band and our other projects. Apart from working on new recordings, we will be doing live-stream shows on Facebook and YouTube. We'll keep you posted about those.
